Darren Lipomi awarded NSF BRITE to use materials science to study touch
Congratulations to nanoengineering professor Darren Lipomi, whose lab has received an NSF BRITE Award to use stimuli-responsive materials to understand mechanosensation inside and outside the body.
The NSF BRITE (Boosting Research Ideas for Transformative and Equitable Advances in Engineering) Award enables experienced researchers and scholars (tenured or equivalent) to forge new directions or to enter new fields by capitalizing or branching out of their established knowledge domains.

Joseph Wang receives IEEE Technical Achievement Award in Sensors
UC San Diego nanoengineering professor Joseph Wang is the recipient of the Technical Achievement Award in Sensors, awarded by the 2021 IEEE Sensors Council. The award recognizes Wang's seminal contributions to the fields of wearable sensors and electrochemical biosensors and impacts on the training and professional development of students and postdoctoral sensor researchers from around the globe.

Patrick Mercier receives the 2020 San Diego County Engineering Council's Outstanding Engineering Award
Professor Patrick Mercier has been awarded the 2020 San Diego County Engineering Council's Outstanding Engineering Award. Awarded to one engineer in the San Diego County area annually for recognition of significant engineering advancements and demonstrated leadership in professional societies, Prof. Mercier has been recognized for his technical contributions to ultra-low-power integrated circuit technologies and for his leadership as co-director of the UC San Diego Center for Wearable Sensors. The award was presented at the annual Engineers Week San Diego (EWSD) Awards Banquet on February 21.
